Opener Saif Hassan is brimming with confidence to do well in the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka but his place in the opening spot is still in doubt.
After making his Test debut against Pakistan last year, Saif played his last Test in that year against Zimbabwe. Thereafter he didn’t get any chance to play in this format.
But he is craving for a chance as he wants to make his comeback match memorable one in Lankan Island.
Those who, including me, were out of the national team during the West Indies Test series, practiced really hard. Then we played a series against Ireland Under-23 and we had done well. We played NCL and also had some performance under our belt. So the preparation has been very good. Hopefully I can translate my good form into the Sri Lanka series if I am given the chance, ”Saif said in a recorded video message sent by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) today.
Saif had recently struck a century in a match of National Cricket League (NCL), which was postponed after two rounds due to the escalation of the Covid-19 cases in Bangladesh.
When you will be amongst runs, the confidence will be automatically enhanced. I think fitness-wise and as per batting form I am in good shape even though I didn’t play for the national team for a long time. But I feel overall my preparation and confidence is in good shape. If I get the opportunity, I will try to make full use of it, ”he added.
Saif said the two-day inter-squad practice game, which Tigers will play split into two teams, will be important one for them to acclimatize with the condition.
The upcoming practice match will be very important for us. Because only after playing a match, you can get an idea of the condition and wicket. So I think every session of that practice game will be important for us. We will be gainer if we can cash in. The batsmen who will get a chance to play, will have to set a target to score big. That’s what we have to do, ”he concluded.
